The investigation into the Ninth District continues to rage on as Congress looks to avoid a shutdown, plus a crazy story about the Titanic discovery. Shall we begin?

WHAT HAPPENED

STORIES FROM THE NATION

We'll start with some international flair. I've said it before and I'll say it again: national Democrats, like those in North Carolina, are coming for your wallet. This week, U.S. House Democrats changed the rules to make raising taxes easier. California Democrats want to tax text messages. French President Emmanuel Macron proposed a carbon tax and fuel price hike, which disproportionally impact the poor. Take a wild guess how that's going. CNN

Remember the story from last week regarding the lack of outside groups for conservative female candidates? The youngest Republican woman in Congress, New York's Elise Stefanik, is starting one. Politico

Democrats and liberal groups like to push the gender pay gap myth, using the debunked "women make 77 cents on the dollar compared to men" stat. A new Harvard study explains why the gender pay gap is nearly nonexistent and the reason is exactly what Republicans have been saying all along. Hot Air

It's no secret the Democrats have a problem with anti-Semitism, and a great example is the leadership of The Women's March. Take a look at this long but fascinating read how left-wing extremists Linda Sarsour and Tamika Malloy took over The Women's March. Tablet Magazine

Remember those doomsday predictions about how the internet would cease to exist if the Obama-era net neutrality regulations were rescinded? Let's check in on how those worked out: R Street Institute

Your non-political national story of the week: the wreckage of the Titanic was discovered in 1985. Check out this wild read behind the real reason the exploration took place. CNN

Speaking of 2016, someone is lying over at the NC Democrat Party. In the middle of this entire investigation, Bladen County Board of Elections vice chair Jens Lutz resigned. A former chair of the Bladen County Democrat Party, Lutz stated in his resignation that his own party was attacking him. WSOC

Recent polls have shown that support for ending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is limited to a small yet noisy minority. So what do the newly-elected Sheriffs for Wake and Mecklenburg do? The Virginian-Pilot

Although school shootings have steadily decreased since the 1990s, social media brings far more attention to any incidents. NCGA Republicans took the lead to study how to make schools safer. Take a look at what the House Select Committee on School Safety recommended: Carolina Journal

Governor Cooper served in the NCGA during an era of bribery, backroom deals, and quid pro quo, and people were warned he would bring that paradigm to the Governor's Mansion. Regarding the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, NCGA Republicans are digging into the apparent pay-to-play by the Governor and are making good on their promise to get to the bottom of the slush fund. Carolina Journal
