Statement Regarding Board Of Elections Vote
Raleigh, NC — With the conclusion of the State Board of Elections meeting vote today, NCGOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse released the following statement:
"Today's partisan actions by the Democrat members of the Board of Elections are grossly improper and show exactly why the constitutional amendment creating a completely bipartisan Board of Elections is needed. Today the Democrat board members, in a grossly partisan move, simply tried to give the Governor and Attorney General cover for a position they already dictated to the board.
"This is the danger the court put us on by declaring for the first time in state history that the Elections Board was an executive agency under full control of the Governor. We saw that play out when Attorney General Stein, on behalf of the Governor, told the Board what their position would be without a board vote. Without consultation, Stein declared the State Board would join the lawsuit in support of the Governor's position - against the right of the voters to voice an opinion on their state Constitution."
