ICYMI Governor Cooper Files Lawsuit To Gain More Partisan Control Over Election Board Processes

For Immediate Release
Raleigh, NC - Governor Cooper quietly filed a lawsuit to challenge the Rules Review Commission, which is designed to check the rulemaking power of the executive branch agencies. The most recent high profile ruling from the NC Rules Review Commission overturned the Democrat State Boards “Emergency Orders” which favored Democrat counties over Republican counties. After this ruling, Governor Cooper filed a lawsuit to dissolve the Rules Commission, which has been around since 1984 in a naked attempt to gain more unfettered, unaccountable, partisan control over the election machinery.
“Governor Cooper’s lawsuit is another blatant, ugly, partisan power play designed to undermine North Carolina's election integrity,” said NCGOP Tim Wigginton. “North Carolinians deserve an election that they can trust, and Governor Cooper is breaking new ground in figuring out ways to undermine that trust.”
Cooper’s lawsuit is the latest chapter in his long saga of undermining the integrity of North Carolina’s election process.
Here are some of the most odious examples:
-
Cooper sued to make the North Carolina Board of Elections partisan instead of nonpartisan before taking office.
-
Cooper henchmen on the State Board fired the well respected Executive Director in favor of someone cleared by the Cooper’s campaign.
-
Cooper’s Chairman of the Board of Elections had to resign after being exposed as a partisan hack.
