Where Does Cunningham Stand on Defunding the Police?

RALEIGH, NC-- The Minneapolis city council this past weekend voted to disband their city’s police department, and other Democratic cities are considering the same. As Democrats across the country continue to push to dismantle police departments and divert money away from law enforcement, North Carolinians need to know if Cal Cunningham thinks that pandering to his radical liberal base is more important than keeping North Carolinians safe.

“Defunding the police is not a fringe movement, Minneapolis is just the first in a long line of Democratic-led cities who want to disband law enforcement,” said NCGOP Press Secretary Tim Wigginton. “It’s only a matter of time before the radical left tries to defund the police here in North Carolina, and voters deserve to know where Cal Cunningham will stand when the time comes. Based on his horrific record on public safety, North Carolinians can be fairly certain that Cunningham will put the radical liberals in his party over keeping them safe.”

Cunningham’s support for the “defund the police” movement would come as no surprise, given he has already vowed to put the public safety of North Carolinians at risk by “enabling” sanctuary city policies.
