Fact-Check Rates Recent Attack Ad Against Tillis As False
Raleigh, NC - On Friday, fact-checkers confirmed that Cal Cunningham’s Democrat allies lied about Thom Tillis in their recent attack ad. The ad falsely accused Tillis of not encouraging North Carolinians to wash their hands and follow health guidelines during the pandemic, and intentionally took Tillis’ words out of context in order to mislead the people of North Carolina. Here are a few key points from WRAL PolitiFact:
-
“He never said restaurant workers shouldn’t wash their hands. In context, he was saying he didn’t think the government needed to regulate handwashing at restaurants, because customers would stop going if that happened.”
-
“What’s more, his 2015 comments had nothing to do with the pandemic. During the pandemic, Tillis has held up hand washing as an important public response.”
-
“The ad is inaccurate, so we rate it False.”
“It’s no surprise that Cal Cunningham and his allies were caught yet again peddling falsehoods about Senator Tillis, given Cunningham has spent his entire campaign lying to North Carolinians,” said NCGOP Press Secretary Tim Wigginton. “Cunningham should demand Majority Forward take down this ad, or he will continue to prove that voters cannot trust him when he promises he won’t be just another rubber-stamp for Chuck Schumer’s extreme liberal agenda.”
