ICYMI NCGOP Holds Roundtable In Winston-Salem To Discuss The Impact Of Cooper’s Lockdowns
August 4, 2020
For Immediate Release
Winston-Salem, NC- The North Carolina Republican Party continued our roundtable tour this time with a stop in Winston-Salem, NC. The NCGOP is conducting this roundtable tour to bring together local leaders and business leaders to discuss the impact of Cooper’s lockdown order. Governor Cooper has remained hidden in his bunker, refusing to venture out and listen to the North Carolinians impacted by his COVID-19 edicts.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Cooper has charted a course of secrecy and surprise, leaving the rest of North Carolina in the dark. These roundtables allow local leaders and small business owners to express the under-reported aspects of Cooper’s lockdowns. The NCGOP will continue to hold these weekly roundtables across the state to give these small business owners a platform to share the devastating impacts of Cooper’s edicts on their business.
Quotes from the roundtable participants:
NCGOP Michael Whatley- “North Carolina is a great state. The Governor should get out and see it.”
“Governor Cooper has remained hidden in his bunker refusing to meet with these North Carolinians. We need transparency and certainty coming from the Governor’s mansion; instead, we get a quivering mass of indecisiveness and secrecy.”
Diego Ruiz Restaurant Owner- “My dad started the company in 1989, and I’ve been a part of the business my whole life. This Coronavirus is a big surprise for all of us, and it affected in many ways. The biggest problem is the lack of transparency and that certain rules only apply to certain groups and not everyone. The problem is we are responsible for enforcing the rules, and the government gets upset at the business, not at the violators.”
Ron Joyce of Joyce Farms- “The problem is that Governor Cooper seems to choose which rules to follow. Governor Cooper forces us to follow all his rules, but he ignores the law, which requires him to get the consent of the Council of State. If Governor Cooper can pick and choose, why can’t we?”
Karin Head Relator- “I’ve been an independent my entire life, but this March 2020, we handed out liberty over with thunderous applause like the Star Wars movies. I don’t know when we decided to put the health of grown adults over children. The lockdowns orders are devastating our youth and Cooper doesn’t care. I feel like he cares more about the rioters and looters than the hard-working North Carolinians.”
Dana Bryson Hotel Owner- “This is the first time I’ve been able to get a message out to anyone, and this is the first time I’ve felt like I’ve been heard. I own a hotel, and most of my revenue comes from meetings. For my industry, we are still in phase one, and the impacts continue to devastate our industry. We haven’t begun to see the beginning of the depression.”
David Speaks The Truth Network- “The idea that we cannot go to church, but we can go to Walmart and be that close to hundreds of people. In Paul’s letter to Timothy, we are exhorted to not live in a spirit of fear, but right now, there is a spirit of fear. By all means, take safety precautions, but we need to have the rules applied fairly.”
