Reminder: The State Election Board Is The Result Of Cooper’s Years Of Fighting For A Partisan Board

Raleigh, NC - Yesterday, Federal District Judge Osteen wrote a blistering rebuke of Attorney General Josh Stein and the Cooper Appointed State Board of Elections leadership attempt to misappropriate his order. This blistering rebuke came after Stein and the NCSBE entered into a collusive settlement to gut common sense absentee ballot protections and then misappropriated the judge’s order to try to ram through the settlement before a judge had signed off on it.

These radical, unethical “sue and settle” from Josh Stein and Cooper’s handpicked Election Board come after years of Democrat Governor Roy Cooper fighting against bipartisan control and his total control. Cooper started to fight against a bipartisan board of elections since before his inauguration. Eventually, the Democrats on the Supreme Court sided with Cooper, allowing him to complete partisan control over the election machinery here in North Carolina. After assuming partisan control, the Election Board ousted the well respected Executive Director and selected a replacement with the help of Cal Cunningham and Cooper’s political consultant

“Governor Cooper has been corrupting the election process since taking office, and now it appears that his state board is taking action to save his re-election efforts,” said NCGOP Press Secretary Tim Wigginton. “AG Stein and the cronies on the NCSBE are simply doing Cooper’s bidding and cashing the check Cooper wrote when he spent his raw political capital taking over the board."
