Stein Should Immediately Retract His False Statements on CNN and Social Media

For Immediate Release

Raleigh, NC - Yesterday, U.S. District Court Judge William Osteen issued a direct fact check of Attorney General Josh Stein and the State Board of Elections as he ruled against their attempt to gut the absentee witness requirement. On Monday, Attorney General Josh Stein proudly tweeted out a video of his interview on CNN claiming a federal judge supported Stein's plan to eliminate the witness requirement for absentee ballots. Wednesday, Judge Osteen strongly rebuked Josh Stein and the North Carolina State Board of Elections for misstating his order. Osteen's twelve-page rebuke of Stein and the Democrat Board of Elections clarifies that Stein and Cooper's cronies on the State Board of Elections deliberately misused Osteen's order to overturn duly enacted law.

"Judge Osteen's remarkable clarification of his order makes clear that Josh Stein went on CNN and blatantly lied to the nation about the judge's order. Stein is the chief law enforcement of officer of the state. Instead of enforcing and defending North Carolina’s election protections, Stein entered into a collusive settlement to undo the laws just enacted by an overwhelmingly bipartisan majority of the legislature. Stein should go back on CNN and explain why he is abusing his office to undermine North Carolina's election integrity," said NCGOP Press Secretary Tim Wigginton.
