Governor Cooper's First General Election Ad Disconnected from Reality

July 14, 2020
For Immediate Release

Raleigh NC - This morning, Governor Roy Cooper released a brazenly false and out of touch TV ad in an apparent attempt to change history on the reality of his failed response to COVID-19. Anyone who has paid attention to North Carolina news reports had to have a good laugh when hearing Cooper say "we can't put politics ahead of safety," "we have to support our small businesses," or "you deserve honest answers and decisive action."

"Governor Cooper spent the past four months hiding in his mansion and raising millions of out of state and special interest campaign dollars. Meanwhile, he forced small businesses to shutter and working families to rely on his failed unemployment system for a living," said NCGOP Spokesman Nzinga Johnson. "Cooper is now trying to use his campaign war chest to distort the reality of his COVID failures."

Let's examine Cooper's actual COVID response with his laughable commercial taglines.

 "Politics Ahead of Safety"

-The Cooper Campaign continued to fundraise throughout the height of the pandemic. They even managed to score a virtual fundraiser for Bill and Hillary Clinton's top money man: Terry McAuliffe.

-Cooper violated his own order by marching maskless with protestors outside his mansion.

-Mandy Cohen got caught violating the mask order just before she walked up to the podium to speak about the importance of wearing masks.

-Cooper vetoed SB168 and the millions in block grant funding for healthcare programs meant to help underprivileged North Carolinians even though the legislature already had legislation to fix the troublesome provision.

-Several pro-life protesters were arrested while protesting with appropriate social distancing because of Cooper's executive order.

"Support our small businesses."

-Cooper continues to keep gyms closed despite the scientific evidence that shows that gyms can reopen safely.

-Cooper hid in his mansion, refusing to provide a plan to stop looters and rioters from wreaking havoc on North Carolina small businesses in our downtown areas.

-Cooper still doesn't have an economic reopening task force even though 41 other states have reopening taskforces.

"Protect Lives"

-The majority of COVID deaths in NC happen to occur in nursing homes.

-Cooper refused to agree to test all nursing home victims till the News and Observer highlighted his failure on June 25.

-July 13, the NC Watchdog Network reported that Governor Cooper still doesn't have a plan to regularly test nursing home residents and staff almost two months after Vice President Mike Pence Issued the federal guidelines.

-Also, Cooper only takes COVID in prison seriously when a judge orders him too.

-Cooper continued to transfer hundreds of inmates between prisons despite experts' warnings.

"Honest Answers and Decisive Action"

-The Cooper administration is so honest a coalition of media companies, including the New York Times and Associated Press, is suing Cooper to force Cooper to comply with Public Records laws.

-Cooper decided to punt on reopening schools and pushed making a decision off by two weeks

-Cooper's reopening announcements are announced at the last minute giving families and small businesses little time to react.
