NCGOP Launches New Ad Campaign To Highlight Cooper’s Failure To Protect Nursing Home Residents

Raleigh, NC - Today, the North Carolina Republican Party released a new ad and launched a five-figure digital campaign highlighting Governor Roy Cooper’s utter failure to protect those most vulnerable for COVID-19, the elderly population in nursing homes and long term care facilities.
The ad highlights the real world heartbreaking reality of Cooper’s malfeasance as North Carolinians mourn the unnecessary deaths of their parents and grandparents in NC nursing homes.
While Cooper issued his first emergency proclamation 140 days ago, he still hasn’t figured out how to prevent COVID-19 from ravaging North Carolina nursing homes. In fact, according to Cooper’s own Department of Health and Human Services, over half of the deaths from COVID-19 come from nursing homes and long term care facilities, which make up less than one percent of the total population.
Even worse, Governor Cooper still does not have a plan for regular surveillance testing at nursing homes even after Vice President Mike Pence issued guidance requesting all states to do so over two months ago on May 12.
“Governor Cooper’s refusal to follow the science and data and develop a workable strategy to conduct surveillance testing of nursing home and long term care facilities disqualifies him from leadership,” said NCGOP Press Secretary Tim Wigginton. “This ad campaign will help hold Cooper and Cohen accountable by laying out the facts he simply cannot dispute.”
