Cunningham Continues To Change Story On PPP Hypocrisy

RALEIGH, N.C. - In another painful interview with Spectrum News’ Tim Boyum last night, Cal Cunningham struggled to defend his lies and hypocrisy regarding the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Cunningham, who has been caught lying about criticizing the PPP even though his company (WasteZero) benefited from it to the tune of over $1 million, has since tried to fend off criticism for his dishonesty by claiming he only works for WasteZero on an “hourly basis.” Last night, however, Cunningham said he is working for WasteZero on a “contract basis” and refused to provide a straight answer on when was the last time he was paid by the company.

"It’s been weeks and Cal Cunningham still can’t get his story straight when it comes to his Paycheck Protection Program hypocrisy,” said NCGOP spokesman Tim Wigginton. “North Carolinians now deserve to see all of Cunningham’s financial records from WasteZero and he should lead by example on his calls for PPP transparency by asking the company to turn over those documents. Otherwise, it should be assumed he’s lying to voters to get elected again, just like when he broke his promise not to raise taxes back in his 2000 state Senate campaign.”

TRANSCRIPT

TIM BOYUM: You mention that you went off the payroll on March 20th. Do you know the last time that you were paid by that company?

CAL CUNNINGHAM: It has not been weeks, it’s been months and that was on a contract basis. This is a paycheck protection program. I was not on the payroll and an independent contractor cannot receive funds from this particular loan program.
