Did Cunningham Lie On His Financial Disclosure?
August 17, 2020
For Immediate Release
RALEIGH, NC -- After Cal Cunningham was caught hypocritically criticizing the Paycheck Protection Program, which provided up to $2 million in loans for his company, WasteZero, Cunningham said he was still working for the company as late as July. In a financial disclosurefiled last week, however, Cunningham claimed he had stopped working for the company in June.
On July 17, WRAL’s PolitiFact reported that Cunningham himself and WasteZero’s CEO said he was still working for the company.
According to the Raleigh News & Observer, however, Cunningham reported to the U.S. Senate in his financial disclosure last week that he stopped working for WasteZero in June.
Both of these things can’t be true at once. Cunningham’s financial disclosure directly contradicts reporting by WRAL’s PolitiFact, and voters deserve to know whether Cunningham is still working for WasteZero and whether he lied on his financial disclosure in another failed attempt to duck scrutiny for his PPP hypocrisy.
