August 12, 2020
For Immediate Release

Lumberton, NC - The North Carolina Republican Party held our sixth roundtable in Lumberton, NC today bringing together small business owners and local leaders to discuss the impact of Cooper’s lockdown orders. Governor Cooper has refused to meet with these leaders to hear about the actual impacts of his unilateral actions.

Here Are Some Quotes From Today’s Participants

“I’m Deputy Majority Leader Brenden Jones. The message I have to North Carolina is that we need to reopen. We need to get our citizens back to work. We need to get our citizens back to what they do. Governor Cooper has proven that his cure is worse than the disease. People are hurting and we need to help them get back to work and that is what we are doing in the General Assembly.”
Representative Brenden Jones NC House 46

“The message I want to bring is that we need to get our state back open. We need to make sure we are opening up safely. The State Senate, Senate Bill 595 in particular, we passed a bill to get bowling alleys back open and other facilities. This was one of twelve bills vetoed by the Governor. We had a lot of Democrats who voted with us, but after pressure from the Governor they changed their vote.”
Senator Daniel Earl Britt Jr District 13

“As I say every time, North Carolina is a great state, the Governor should get out and see it.”

“We’re holding these roundtables to give these people a voice because Governor Cooper is not listening to the people crushed by his executive orders.”
Michael Whatley- Chairman, North Carolina Republican Party

“The Governor has had a chance since March to make a difference, but he has not. What is five more weeks going to do?”
Scott McClean- Owner, Lumberton Bowling Center

“As a Mom, pharmacist, and gymnastic camp operator, I see the positive impact of physical activity on kids’ physical and mental well-being. Every day I see the positive impact on these kids when they can get out and safely play. I wouldn’t send my own kids to gymnastic class if I didn’t think it was safe.”
Shelly Foil- Gymnastics Camp Operator

We are going to take care of our customers. Pandemic or not, we are in the business of taking care of our people because we rely on them coming back. We have done everything in our power to safely operate. Our frustration is that we keep offering solutions to addressing the Governor’s concerns, but he keeps on without any remedy.”
Nancy Schenk- Owner, B&B Bowling
