ICYMI NCGOP Hosts Roundtable In Burlington NC Discussing The Negative Impact Of Governor Cooper’s Lockdowns And Potential Biden Administration
August 18, 2020
For Immediate Release
Burlington NC - The North Carolina Republican Party continued our roundtable tour in Burlington, NC, where we bring together local elected officials and small business owners to discuss the impact of Cooper’s lockdown orders and the negative impacts of Biden’s tax-hiking agenda. The goal of these roundtables is to give small business owners a platform to discuss what is going on in their community and shows that Republicans take these concerns seriously. While the Republicans are fully committed to listening to everyone and addressing the entirety of the COVID-19 crisis, the Democrats are fully committed to hiding in their basements, trying to figure out who to blame for their failures.

Here are some quotes from today’s participants.
NCGOP Chairman Michael Whatley
“America is the greatest country in the world, and North Carolina is the greatest state in the union, Joe Biden and Roy Cooper should get out and see it.”
“The bunker-based campaign being run by Gov. Cooper is specifically designed to avoid the hard questions and real conversations regarding the impacts of his lockdown. Similarly, Joe Biden's basement-based campaign has been set up to allow him to throw cheap shots at President Trump while avoiding any media scrutiny. Meanwhile, the President has led an unprecedented effort to fight the virus, get resources into the hands of families, small businesses and health care providers, save lives and rebuild the American economy. North Carolina needs a Governor and a President who understand that they must work every day to protect lives and livelihoods at the same time”
Amy Galey County Commissioner Chairwoman
“We’ve had 42 deaths in Alamance County, 31 came from long term care facilities, and I think early on there was a lack of leadership coming from Raleigh that led to a lot of these issues in nursing homes. The Governor has not acted as a partner in dealing with this virus; instead, we just get mandates without a plan.”
Steven Ross NC House District 63
“I had one business owner tell me that he thought he could make it three more weeks, but when Cooper came out and said five more weeks. He had to close his small businesses. These are the type of real-life situations I’m working to solve, but Governor Cooper keeps ignoring the consequences of his actions.”
“I think Governor Cooper should get out of his mansion and listen to the problems we’re trying to deal with the problems we’re trying to deal without here.”
Terry Johnson Sheriff Alamance County
“The Governor ordered us to issue a citation to shut down a man’s business, which is his lifeline to support his family, but I turn on the TV and see Cooper marching with thousands of people without a mask.”
“I respect the office of the Governor, but Governor Cooper needs to do what’s right instead of playing politics.”
“Governor Cooper keeps wanting to cast blame on Washington DC, instead of taking responsibility for his own actions.”
Daryl Laws Gym Owner
“It will be at least six months since we’re been closed, but we don’t know when Cooper will change his mind. We have to watch the TV to see what’s going to happen. We are a small gym, and we applied for a waiver because we met all the CDC guidelines, but we never heard an answer.”
David Carter Pastor
“The concern we have in the community is whether or not the Governor is so shut up that he doesn’t understand what’s going on as people are trying to scratch a living out here.”
“I feel a great sense of desperation in our county. Not about every little thing on the news but the real life issues like schooling and providing for their families.”
“Small business owners are scared to death of a Biden Administration and don’t think that they would survive.”
Chuck Hursey BBQ Joint Owner
“The local Alamance County health department has been great about giving information and helping us keep everything safe and clean. What we’re really struggling with right now is our employees dealing with their kids trying to balance their jobs and spending time with their kids to stop their kids from falling behind in school. Its really stressing a lot of parents out.”
