RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Republican Party has filed a formal complaint with the North Carolina State Board of Elections alleging illegal electioneering on behalf of Democrat Congressman Don Davis at an early voting site in Edgecombe County.
The complaint alleges that Davis supporters wore campaign apparel and engaged in campaign-related activity inside the designated buffer zone and within the voting facility during early voting on October 24. The activity reportedly included a partisan “Breakfast and Ballots” event where individuals wearing Davis campaign shirts prepared and served food to poll workers, greeters, and voters.
North Carolina law prohibits election-related activity within designated voting-place buffer zones. The NCGOP is demanding a thorough investigation and consistent enforcement of the law.
“North Carolina’s election laws apply to everyone, including Congressman Don Davis and his campaign,” said Jason Simmons, Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party. “Voters deserve to cast their ballots without improper political activity at the polls. The State Board must investigate these allegations immediately. There cannot be one set of rules for Democrats and another for everyone else.”
The NCGOP has submitted supporting documentation and called on the Board to ensure accountability and protect the integrity of North Carolina’s elections.
