NCGOP Statement on Hijacked Congressional Maps

Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party Michael Whatley releases the following statement on the trial court's decision to reject the General Assembly's remedial Congressional Map and impose their own:

"On behalf of Republican voters all across North Carolina I am extremely disappointed that the courts have hijacked our elections and substituted their version of a Congressional Map for the Map drawn by the Legislature.

The North Carolina Constitution, affirmed by the Supreme Court of the United States, clearly gives the authority to draw election maps solely to the Legislature. This decision by the three-judge panel lies completely outside of their authority and should be overturned."
