Statement on Charlotte's Targeted Operations with Federal Law Enforcement
Since Saturday, federal law enforcement officers have bravely taken actions to apprehend criminal illegals from the streets of North Carolina's largest city. As these actions have unfolded, the response from the Radical Democrat Socialists in Charlotte has been reprehensible.
The wreckage Joe Biden and Kamala Harris inflicted on our country with their open Southern border comes into full view when these operations arrest 130 individuals as of Monday, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Nearly 1,400 immigration detainers across North Carolina have not been honored—releasing criminal illegal aliens into neighborhoods and free to roam the streets. This problem was enabled under former Gov. Roy Cooper, who on three separate occasions vetoed legislation to require local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE.
In a city that's averaged over 100 homicides per year for the past five years, enforcement of the law is long overdue.
Even the Charlotte Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police agrees:
"Imagine how much safer Charlotte could be if our City, County, and State leaders showed the same determination in confronting violent, repeat offenders those who murder and maim our neighbors as they do in challenging Customs and Border Protection."
"Democrats at all levels are choosing to protect criminal illegals over North Carolina citizens," said NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons. "Threats to federal law enforcement agents are up 1,000% this year because of the rhetoric we see from the Left. Now, they're showing more outrage over removing violent criminals from Charlotte's streets than the brutal murder on a mass transit system of Iryna Zarutska."
"Border Patrol is in Charlotte for one reason: the need is real. When local Democrats—who control all aspects of local government—refuse to enforce the law, federal agencies have no choice but to step in and protect this community. This is no political stunt," said Mecklenburg County Republican Party Chairman Kyle Kirby. "Had Democrat leadership done a better job protecting the people of this city in the first place, would we even be having this conversation now?”
