RALEIGH NCCal Cunningham was silent today as his national Democrat benefactors blocked a measure to provide an additional $250 billion in aid to small businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19.

The decision by Chuck Schumer and his Democratic allies in the Senate to object to the extension of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and delay essential assistance to small businesses comes after Cunningham has been arguing that “small businesses don’t have time to wait for relief.” Cunningham has also criticized Tillis and Senate Republicans for what he claimed was “delaying action on (the phase II) coronavirus relief package,” but is refusing to condemn the leaders of his own party when it comes to replenishing PPP funding.

“Cal Cunningham’s hypocritical silence on the political stunt that Chuck Schumer pulled today shows that he could care less about the North Carolina small businesses that are struggling to stay afloat and is only interested in using the COVID-19 pandemic to attempt to score cheap political points,” said NCGOP spokeswoman Sasha Duncan. “While Senator Tillis is pushing for bipartisan action to ensure the financial health of North Carolinians, Cal Cunningham will continue to do and say whatever Chuck Schumer tells him to in order to repay him for the $13 million the New York liberal provided him with to get across the finish line in his primary.”
